Improved Sytenol (Retinol) Delivery and Stability

Objective
In this study, Hydrosome Labs contracted with TRI Princeton to investigate improved skin delivery and stability of sytenol (also known as bakuchiol, a retinol alternative) when formulated with Hydrosome H2O. Retinol is a common skincare active ingredient used to improve skin health and reduce the appearance of fine lines and rinkles and is typically used as an overnight cream.
Design
Two skin care formulations were created using either deionized water or Hydrosome H2O, both with a 2% concentration of sytenol. The two were then applied onto human skin tissue in a Franz Cell system for 2 hours. Confocal Raman Spectroscopy was used to measure the depth of the delivery and stability retention of the Sytenol.
Results
The sample made with Hydrosome H2O had a higher potency of Sytenol into the top layer of the skin after two hours.
