Improved Niacinamide Penetration with Skin Care Formula

Objective

Hydrosome Labs contracted with TRI Princeton to show improved skin penetration of  Niacinamide in a formulation of 3% Niacinamide + a Skin Care Formula using Ultra Pure Water as compared to  Niacinamide + a Skin Care Formula using Hydrosome H2O.

Design

Niacinamide is a common skincare active ingredient used to improve skin resiliency and texture.  In this study two skin care formulas were created using Ultra Pure Water (Formula 1) and Hydrosome H2O (Formula 2) with a 3% concentration of Niacinamide.  The two were then introduced to human skin tissue in a Franz Cell system and were allowed to penetrate for 2 hours.  Confocal Raman Spectroscopy was used to measure the depth of penetration of the Niacinamide.

Results

The results of this study showed that Niacinamide penetrated significantly deeper in the formula made with Hydrosome H2O (through stratum corneum and into the epidermis).
