Improved Carnosine Delivery

Objective
In this study, Hydrosome Labs contracted with TRI Princeton to investigate improved skin permeation of carnosine when formulated with Hydrosome H2O. Carnosine is a common skincare active ingredient used for its anti-oxidant and anti-aging effects.
Design
Two skin care formulations were created using either deionized water or Hydrosome H2O with an equivalent concentration of carnosine. The two formulations were then introduced to human skin tissue in a Franz Cell system and were allowed to deliver for 24 hours. High-Performance Liquid Chromatography was used to measure the delivery kinetics.
Results
The formulation made with Hydrosome H2O was able to deliver carnosine quicker than the formulation made with deionized water. Moreover, the Hydrsome H2O formulation showed cumulative carnosine concentrations that were over 3X higher than the deionized water formulation.
